How-To: Send Your Lake Neighbour An Alert When Your Cabin's Temperature Drops

If you're like most Canadian cabin owners, you're not up at your cabin much during the winter. You might have a neighbour nearby who lives up at the lake year-round and checks in on your place from time-to-time, or drive up yourself a few times a year. While a friendly neighbour checking on your place is a very Canadian thing to do, it still leaves your cabin unprotected for the majority of the year. Wouldn't it be great to get an alert if the temperature dropped or the power went out - and even better if your neighbour got the alert too?
CabinPulse is a standalone device that plugs into any power outlet in your cabin and monitors temperature, humidity, air quality, power outages and even smoke alarms, 24/7/365. The best part? It doesn't need WiFi! This means it works even during power outages and you don't have to pay for expensive internet while you're away. With CabinPule, you can set custom alerts depending on what you want to track. For example, you can get an alert if the power goes out or if the temperature drops below 8 °C. As soon as either of those happens, a text and email alert are sent out immediately so you can do something about it!
Adding A Neighbour's Phone & Email
The CabinPulse dashboard lets you view a lot of data - the current sensor data, historical data since you activated the device, insights over specific time periods and your account details. It's also your home for adding and removing alerts. Your CabinPulse account login should be kept private and only shared with other people who you trust to view and change this information. With that being said, there is no limit to the number of people who can be logged in and viewing data from different devices.
Instead of giving out your login info to your neighbour, it's a better idea to ask their permission to add their phone and email address to receive alerts for your cabin.
- Make sure your CabinPulse device has an identifiable name. Your neighbour might be keeping an eye on a few different places so it's helpful to make sure they can act quickly when they receive an alert. All alerts include the name of the CabinPulse device.
- On your CabinPulse Dashboard, navigate to "Settings". Scrolling down, you will see the "Additional Emails" and "Additional Phones" sections.

- Add your neighbour's phone and email, being sure to click '+' after adding each, and clicking "Save Changes".
- Setup an instant alert such as "Power Outage" and unplug your device. You should receive an alert instantly - and your neighbour should too! Make sure they receive the alerts, know what they look like and know where to go if they get one.
And that's it! This way, your neighbour doesn't have to worry about logging in to a dashboard or remembering a password - and you don't have to worry about them accidentally turning off an important alert.
